Jane Brody interviews the unfortunately named "Dr. Rolls, an expert on satiety and satiation."

Brody's latest bit of profundity: "Calories consumed must be used or they will be stored as body fat."

They could be consumed but not absorbed in someone with a malabsorption syndrome. In this case they would be consumed but neither used (burned) nor stored.

Hmm. How many people are out there malabsorbing? Would you rewrite the nutrition info on food packaging to accommodate these dwindlers, e.g., 600 calories; for you, 199?

But Brody's intended audience is people who are absorbing every last thing they eat, and then some. We should probably keep this in mind.
