A little chauvinisme here.
The word "courriel", French for email (and short for "courrier électronique"), was invented in Québec, but it took the Académie Française years to recognize it, only because it was coming from outside of France.
And as of today, the French don't use "courriel", they say "mail" (pronounced 'mêêêêle').
