Sometimes reading the newspaper really puts things into perspective. For instance, this article about $1000 handbags made me think so differently about my own handbag dilemma: there's this bag, it's bright green leather, it's $85, and it's gorgeous. And the subways are about to explode, so why not?

Seize the handbag, for tomorrow you may be blown to bits on the subway

What I never have understood about those sorts of handbags is not only their prices, but that as bags, they look super-inefficient. Who wants a bag that already weighs a million pounds *before* you put all your crap in it? But I'm just speaking practically -- I'm the type to always overpack, so these bags never have appealed to me. I await the day that Marc Jacobs designs something for girls like me, and Paris, Lindsay and Mischa all have it and temporarily become girls like me. The price I'll deal with another time.
This has nothing to do with handbags, but have you seen the
www.onlysimchas.com website?
But what do Paris et al carry, aside from dogs that weigh less than a number 2 pencil? I agree that bags should weigh less, but I don't think Marc Jacobs will ever design with the U of C student in mind.
