The new beauty ideal is 12. Someone got to the correct AbFab quote already, but others can easily enough come up with the concept on their own. What we really need is a telling-it-like-it-is manifesto about how female fetuses are not only the perfect runway models, but also the only women who haven't aged past attractiveness. Red-blooded heterosexual men can't help but prefer the images of a sonogram that indicate 'it's a girl' to the sad, desperate 23-year-old women they might meet at a bar.

+1 on the title
As per your posts on the distinction between high fashion and "what appeals to the average American hetero male," I don't think there's any reason to consider couture runway models to typify what our society deems sexually attractive. Or to go with XX's references, I'm pretty sure Christina Hendricks garners a lot more hubba-hubba double takes than Elle Fanning.
On the other hand, there was something creepily Jodie-Foster-in-Taxi-Driver about the Vogue pic.
PG,
I was thinking of the Derbyshire angle. Not that hetero men prefer 12-year-olds (or fetuses), but that somewhere, there's a hetero man who wants to write a manifesto about this.
