What Would Phoebe Do?

Sunday, January 09, 2005

Too good to be true?

The front page of the NYT essentially guarantees world peace:

"Mahmoud Abbas, who opposes continuing violence against Israel, declared victory tonight in the election for a new president of the Palestinian Authority after two exit polls showed him winning by a large margin."

"To cries of 'God is great!' in Arabic and 'Hallelujah!' the Islamic government of Sudan signed a peace agreement on Sunday with a Christian rebel group in the south that called for an end to one of Africa's fiercest and longest-running civil wars."

Now, once we get AIDS and natural disasters in check, we can be not just a city or a nation but a species of Jane Brody-readers, watching our cholesterol and overhearing amusing things on the bus. Here's hoping. Seriously.
