"Is Your Ab Workout Hurting Your Back?"

I can't explain why, but this headline cracks me up. I'm sure it's a serious issue and everything, but... yeah. If it weren't for various DIY moving extravaganzas, my back would be in fine shape indeed.

Lift with your legs!

As a runner with no upper-body strength to speak of, I probably do that regardless.

I have no upper-body strength either, but if I don't consciously remind myself, I'll try to lift with my back. The key thing is to keep your knees lose and bend at the hips as you're picking something up, rather than arching your back. I've been trying to remember this posture for everything lately and it really does require using your abs. I just wish I could find one of those boards that they supposedly strapped babies to in the old day to keep their backs straight.

PG,

This is intriguing. Perhaps after the Great Move, I'll be set for Bikini Season. In a university town in Germany, where of course bikinis will be necessary. (Nudity, perhaps, given the cliché of the German nudist. Shudder.)
