A Victoria Roberts cartoon in the latest issue of the
New Yorker is especially relevant to the
Yale Future Housewives debate. It shows two women sitting on a couch, having drinks. The caption: "I would like to be supported, not by a man, but maybe by working animals--say, a troupe of tigers working in the circus, or two racehorses, or a dog who's landed a sitcom." As someone whose dreams of one day participating in the
Iditarod far exceed my dreams of being supported by a workaholic banker husband, I identify with the women in this cartoon, not to mention take the cartoon a whole lot more literally than it's probably meant to be taken.
