Hogwash

Just... no.

  1. Aside from the soft target of the author of that article being an ass, I'm curious as to the accuracy of his factual assertions:

"Sleeping and eating on a farm is a common way to vacation in Europe, where the ties to farming are strong and motels are few."

    To your knowledge, true?

  2. I think the author's a woman...

Anyway, as for European farm vacations, my only (pre-Googling) knowledge of this comes from regional TV in Belgium, a show about 'fun' Vlaams-Brabant vacations, one of which involved staying on a farm and tending to sheep... leading Jo to coin the play-on-words 'sheep vacation' - as in, inexpensive. I don't know for sure, but I don't think anyone was paying the euro equivalent of $300 a night, although they were paying something to experience farm life.

  3. Hey, would anybody be interested in my vacation package? It's the called "the grad student experience." You can see real knowledge get created! I charge $300 a night to stay on a blow up mattress in a cheap student walk up, extras include: checking out books for me in the library ($40), attending a seminar with wine and cheese reception ($120), and cooking a meal with ingredients that cost less than $5 ($15).

    PS. Vans are fine.

  4. Fantastic! I almost think this could work at NYU, or could have back when 'Felicity' was still on the air.
