when obviously the real story of the day is that Kimmel is now occupied by The Youth. Their demands include solidarity with the Palestinians (no mention of Israelis) and improved conditions for TAs. Well that does put me in a bind.
For what it's worth, should any of the protesters be reading this, I'm pretty sure NYU already does have special scholarships for Palestinian students. Might be worth looking into before declaring the university a great big Zionist conspiracy. (If it were, I'd have summer funding like whoa.)
I like how demand #1 is:
ReplyDelete"Full legal and disciplinary amnesty for all parties involved in the occupation."
That's absurd. You don't protest illegally and expect that you'll get away with it. That's utterly contrary to the spirit of civil disobedience. Regardless of the legitimacy of your civil disobedience, recognize that it's disobedience, and accept the consequences.
If you're not willing to accept the blight on your record, then don't disobey.
Selfish cowards!
Also, Bobst is too crowded already...
ReplyDeleteWhat do they want with Bobst???
ReplyDeleteOK, now I see. Yuck.
ReplyDeleteWant to join me in a protest against Bobst's horrible show-your-books-as-you-leave policy?
I'll protest, but only if our demands include Gaza.
ReplyDeleteGaza in what sense? As I mentioned, NYU already has a program of some sort for Palestinian students...
ReplyDeleteI dunno, think of something. The smorgasbord of demands is apparently in.
ReplyDeleteI'm also demanding more books about cheese sandwiches in Bobst, for the edification of Greenwich Village.
Also, how could you not have told me about the campus chik-fil-a!??!
I keep reading about this chik-a-fil but hadn't heard of it till today. Is this what I should have been having for lunch all this time?
ReplyDeleteMy demands:
-The book thing at Bobst.
-TA salaries dropped to 'only' $500k. Or, failing that
-The right to sell your gym membership at market rate, thus increasing your net income from NYU.
-Relocation of Bobst and the French department to somewhere nearer to Chelsea Market, because of the Thai food. Or,
-Grad-student housing, free of charge, in the Police Building.
I don't support all of what you're doing (I mean, let the grad student housing be rent-controlled, at best), but I feel so alienated from everyone, and so I support the fact that you're asserting yourself so that we can experience humanity to the fullest.
ReplyDeleteGood grief.
ReplyDeleteI'll take a rent-controlled apt. in the Police Building, but only if it's in the dome.
