No personal experience, but just from the evidence of <b>various</b> '70's docs, I'll say that there was a lot more <b>shabby</b> gentility in The Hamptons a generation ago. Perhaps thought of as a more Nantucket vibe.<br /><br />But the GINI explosion in Manhattan, along with helicopter transport, then shifted The Hamptons into Full Gilded Age mode.<br /><br />And <b>now</b>, there is the threat of Coney Island arriving. The subway threatens to have a station.<br /><br />So, I'll go with the Contrarian POV™ of <b>not</b> same as it ever was here. Actual anthropological shifts going on here, IMHO.
