That's just silly manufactured outrage. However, I also can't imagine why anyone, even someone silly enough to write in to Dan Savage, would be interested in his cogitations on their sexuality.Andrew Stevenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13453328821252013152noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7146512.post-41374859269937230412014-08-12T09:29:59.435-04:002014-08-12T09:29:59.435-04:00Read about your controversy on Andrew Sullivan. You are definitely right about the difference in treatment with men and women and I have long suspected you were right about the origin of this difference in belief (male "sexual fluidity" appears to be smaller because men have traditionally felt more of a need to be heterosexually performative).

Where I (very mildly) disagree is that I don't believe Dan Savage should have pointed out to the woman that she was possibly lesbian. (I guarantee she doesn't need him to point out that possibility for it to occur to her. If she's rejected it, it's because it's not true.) I do completely agree that he probably would have pointed out to a man with the same story that he should consider if he were gay, but that's where he would have been mistaken.

It is not at all uncommon for bisexuals to fixate in their fantasy lives, sometimes for extended periods of time, sometimes not, on the gender they are not currently having sex with. It doesn't mean they've suddenly turned completely one way or the other.Andrew Stevenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13453328821252013152noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7146512.post-50868995820162716392014-08-11T22:14:53.302-04:002014-08-11T22:14:53.302-04:00Thanks Flavia!
