For such a hackneyed premise, it made for bizarrely compelling TV. It ended up being about social maladroitness, which is not what you normally see on the small screen.

Much like Jerry Lewis, America will need the French to inform us a decade down the road that Ashton Kuchar is actually a genius.

-----

And on the Seinfeld front, have you had your HBO virginity broken to be exposed to Curb Your Enthusiasm? It ain't the New York comedy of manners, but the best episodes are funnier than the best Seinfelds.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7146512.post-1121319092174876232005-07-14T01:31:00.000-04:002005-07-14T01:31:00.000-04:00Isn't the cultural narrative that the unattractive...Isn't the cultural narrative that the unattractive guy goes after the hot girl and gets her in the end because of either 1) earning potential, or 2) being really nice and supportive while her really good-looking but dickish boyfriend cheats on her? Geeky girls only get hot guys after they've been made over by another hot guy as part of some crazy bet. And then they end up with the hot guy who made them over. Translated to reality TV, this wouldn't really work out, unless you could find a whole bunch of straight stylists. And that violates a whole other set of cultural stereotypes. All in all, I think your dream will never come true. TV just isn't daring enough. Though, who knows, I could be wrong.

(The closest there is to the geeky guy is the really pure girl who, despite being virginal to the point of alienating hot guys, in the end convinces them to fall in love due to her unfaltering goodness.)Hathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02354635337903994221noreply@blogger.com
